Unfortunately unlike with the last time I did this–which was THE biggest post I had done yet–last year, for some reason, I didn't run across much music that fits in with this annual theme (unless you count the Opium Grave, which I'll get to). So if anyone has stuff to add be sure to do that.
Old Tower, Portrait Of A Medieval Presence–well well! And here I juuuust said "I didn't run across much music", but then I got happily surprised when I checked on OT's Bandcamp page this morning to find out he dropped this brand new album yesterday! He made it to several past threads before, as this is dark ambient, dungeon and horror synth mixed really well; atmosphere-wise, he's got tempest bells, buried dialog, an ambient soundscape or two and sound effects of a fire crackling, a mental picture of a cauldron bubbling, a creature slithering around and either an ancient terror under a monastery or a modern day lab's experiment that's about to be unleashed (the final track, which is the creepiest of them all!). And with dreary, at times dreadful music, I'm happy to report OT is back to form, as this is the best out of his last three, if not five albums.
Harry Parch, "The Bewitched - Prologue: The Lost Musicians Mix Magic"–Harry was a pretty weird guy, as he either had total disdain or no concept whatsoever for the standard 4/4 time signature, he invented a bunch of his own instruments and he released albums independently, rather than using a record label, along with being alternative, which was totally unheard of in 1931 (you think "alternative" came out in the 1990s? Bullcrap!). Here his xylophone-like instruments can bring about a creepy atmosphere as it is, along with unusual vocals and all thrown in as well.
Opium Grave, ??–I listened to the majority of this prolific guy's stuff in the last year so it's all a blur now. There's creepy stuff in here somewhere but I don't recall where; it's not on his very first, nor second to last release, nor a full-length I'm planning on getting (which I think is Obliterator). A bit of this has death metal vocals, so it might not be for everyone, but I might skim through some of this to find some of the creepy stuff if I can (or if anyone else runs across some, be sure to post on here what and where it is).
Reliquary of Terror Vol. 3–actually this compilation album came in at the last second/final day of last year's post, so if anyone had anything to say about it the thread was locked before anyone did/could. Like with the first two volumes, these are good Halloween-like tracks with only one or two meh, filler tracks (in my opinion), brought to you by some of the biggest names in dungeon synth, being Erang, Seregost, Eldritch Wizardry and Mortwight, along with other either up and comers or maybe ones that came up with a track just for this compilation and will never be heard from again.
One Leg One Eye, "The Fancy Cannot Cheat So Well"–this is a creepy, dark ambient soundscape, not really being music.
*"Glistening, She Emerges"–no, this isn’t anything sexual or anything, this is actually creepier than the other piece. (Hard to believe the rest of this guy's stuff is ambient Irish music, eh?)
