Which extra work? Isn't it a one-click setup?

Hi Panik Maybe lets see how popular it would be as board of the month first. In for BOTM since it's a hot topic currently.
I'm just not sure if this forum is big enough for that.
I was thinking about financial forums that will have maybe 25 boards and each one is about a different financial thing. BUT I don't know if this forum is big enough for that.
I then thought of the Linus Tech forum We have one tech board, where his tech forum has over 30 separate tech boards since it's a specialized interest.
I'm just thinking "out loud." Let's make it BOTM to start and see how it goes. I'll vote for it as botm to help the process. And we can see if it'll work here.

Which extra work? Isn't it a one-click setup? Reading through 18 years of posts to categorize old financial threads.

A sub-board probably might not need the past archiving, but do we use sub-boards here? I am all for a botm test drive. Hugs and love for Mzpanik

Reading through 18 years of posts to categorize old financial threads. Well that just sounds like a terrible idea. Can't we make it blank and start clean?

^If it's a main board, the entire home page may have to be redone depending on what the staff wants. If it's a sub-board, it can probably start at zero.

I just want it to be clear that I appreciate all the feedback I get. I am always open to new ideas, but because of how I am, I would feel obligated to re-categorize all appropriate threads from the beginning of time. If it were a parent board, I would also feel obligated to redesign the entire homepage. I know there are a lot of you who would say, "Are you friggin nuts? That's not necessary." I really appreciate the positive feedback in this thread. Yes, a LOT of time and effort was part of deciding what topics would be part of each board. I feel that this is a good candidate for board of the month. A lot of people seem willing to be part of a trial run. Maybe the trial will help give us a better perspective.

It's understandable to want to keep things organized. I'm OK either way.

I would feel obligated to re-categorize all appropriate threads We need to avoid that because it's not a good use of anyone's spare time. Can we start with a BOTM and then just move it to the front instead of archiving?

It wouldn't be board of the month if the threads weren't archived at the end of the month, right?

I think it's remarkable how our current boards are so close in post count. I believe this speaks to the time and effort spent into deciding each board's primary topic for discussion. The biggest argument, for me, to split a topic out (business and finance) would be that a plethora of posts for that topic end up bloating an existing board. I don't subscribe that any one of our boards is inflated in this manner. The main one that comes close is Random Ramblings because it's specifically for posts that "do not fit within another category or board". I don't believe that the majority of "business and finance" posts reside in Random Ramblings, however. I think it would be a fine botm topic if folks want to give it a test run but in general it just seems like a hot topic right now.
That's how I feel and we only have less than a handful of definite yes answers. No need to change the whole forum. So, trying it out as botm seems most logical.

bigballofyarn, I get wanting to move over threads, but no need to redo the home page if you are adding 1 board to the middle category and nothing else.

After taking another look, I think I'd be fine with that one category being bigger than the others. They would be moved to the new board.
