Do you or does anyone in your life have bipolar disorder? Mom and I have been thinking that dad has had it for a long time, but we can't get him to a doctor for an official diagnosis. He explodes if anyone suggests that he might need to go to the doctor.

He goes from kind old man to face red and screaming like a flick of the switch. People are terrified of him. I don't know what to call it because I'm not a doctor.

I know my dad is on medicine for pain. Is he on anything that might change his mood already?

He does take pain meds and he's a bit of an "herbalist" in that he orders pills from catalogs and takes things for various things. Maybe garlic, cinnamon, turmeric, and other herbs.

Hos moods have very extreme highs and lows. Very depressed or very angry and he can go from one to the other in seconds.

The main thing I want to vent about is how he SCARES me when he gets angry. He's like a bully picking on an underclassman. I literally want to call the cops, but I never would.

Nothing good would come out of the call. I'd still have to deal with his wrath. He wouldn't get arrested for having a temper and it would likely get worse.
