Seems like the main goal in life is to be able to afford a home and then obviously live in it. Do any of you fear like you'll never own your home free and clear?

At this rate, 400,000 will never be affordable

The cost is only about 250,000 here, but I'm screwed too.

Been saving up for 8 years. I should be good soon to afford a mortgage.

Still hoping a rich doctor will take care of that.

I don't trust any of those infomercials. They make money off our lack of knowledge in real estate.

This is why so many people are renting into their 30s. It's hard to afford a home.

It took us a while to afford a home...Purchased our first home in March 2011, I was 28 at the time. It took us a while since we wanted to make sure financially we were ok with what the costs would be. My advice based on my experience. If you can "be your own realtor" do it. We bought from the owner with no realtors involved, saved a crap load of commission fees. They agreed to pay closing costs early on in the process and when we went to close, they handed us a check for $2,800 It was a timely and painstaking process at times, but we learned a crap load about buying a house, the forms, and everything in between. Well worth it. Renting sucked, but you have to do it until you're ready. Owning/purchasing/closing on a home is one of the best feelings you'll ever feel. Just knowing the property and home is yours is a great feeling. Of course that comes with alot of responsibility too. My handy man skills are increasing..but only by trial and error.

^That's really great. My mom keeps telling me we need realtors and lawyers and all these other people.
How come you were able to do it all alone?
