I was wondering if any of the other metalheads on here are into this kind of stuff. I actually don't really know much about stoner metal at all, I've just heard one of Sleep's songs played several times on a heavy metal segment on a Houston radio station when their album came out. I just thought it was ok but you can't always judge a band by just one song. I have an interview with some heavy metal musician (want to say it was Peter from Hypocrisy but I don't think it was him) who said the album was "killer".
Closest thing I have to that (until two cds come in ) is Candlemass's From the 13th Sun but that only has a few stoner elements in it, it's just really slow doom metal.
REZN, however, does slow, heavy stoner metal. But they also throw in some unconventional elements such as saxophone (?), piano and flute. With their current last album of Silent Future, there were psychedelic tinges thrown in due to an artist named Vinnum Sabbathi who did the album with them. It takes until about the third song before it gets really good. A reviewer said "I'm starting to realize Rezn can do no wrong", so if all of their albums are indeed really like that then they're a must buy if you like them. Their previous album of Solace is better and heavier and I just got an e-mail from them this morning saying another album is on the way! Right now you can only listen to its first single of "Chasm" as a preview, which is quite heavy with the buzzy guitar tone, although it does get a little monotonous after a while, but then the ending's clever!
And unlike my death metal/thrash stuff with the mucus, growling or gutteral vocalists as of usual, their lead guy can actually sing.
*REZN's Bandcamp page
*Silent Future album
*Solace album
*New "Chasm" single
*Sleep's album (note: I actually found out this and what I thought was a different Sleep are different bands but they actually have another Bandcamp page with several more of their albums at bottom right)
