Ever have a crush on a friend? How did that go? Did you tell them? Did it ruin the relationship? Did you end up together? You can be brutally honest.

I did, never told her, and we drifted apart anyway.

Yes. Decided not to tell her. She had a boyfriend. She ended up marrying him.

Yes and it still happens, but I keep my mouth shut. I get scared of losing the girl entirely.

Yes, and I told him, and he told me I ruined our friendship. He blocked me and never talked to me again.

Yes, twice. I told two of them in a letter. One cried, but he was married. The other said I ruined our friendship and never talked to me again.

Pretty much all of my relationships have been friends that i developed feelings for and things escalated from there.
The only time that changed is the girl I've been seeing recently what originally started off as a 'lets fulfill our needs then part ways after the night' turned into 'hey you're really fun to talk to' and we're discussing the posability of starting a relationship.
I legitimately think that you can't date someone without being their friend, like it's just doomed from the start in that case because if my spouse isnt my friend then what am i doing here.

I guess you do risk losing them if they don't feel the same way back, but you also risk gaining the love of your life. Not all friends walk away when you tell them your feelings. I can't remember well what happened when I confessed my feelings to a friend in the past. It wasn't good or terrible. I think we tried to date and it just didn't end up working. We didn't stop being friends because of that. We just parted ways after university.

Every scenario will be different. I had a few bad ones where the guy never talked to me again. I had a good one where it turned into a beautiful relationship.
