I have a bit of unfortunate news and a decision to make. I cannot give you all the details now because I don't have them. I will be going to the hospital for surgery on February 21st. One of our moderators will be at another hospital around the same time to take care of a life-threatening issue. A third moderator will be in the hospital with me all day, every day until I am released. I will be bringing my laptop to the hospital because I'm a nerd and will inevitably get bored. However, I do not want to feel unnecessary pressure, nor do I want anyone else to feel unnecessary pressure to moderate a forum while they are fighting for their health.
While this site can generally function with little to no conflict, it may be easier on some people's stress levels to not worry about a website while in the hospital. I don't want to lock people out completely, but may have to depending on my level of consciousness and recovery rate. However, I may close only part of the forum and only leave access to the first category, which would include: Front Desk, Welcome Mat, and Featured Discussions. You'd still be able to interact in chat threads and board of the month threads.
The ideal scenario is for this to last for 0-3 days at most. If I regain awareness and mobility after my surgery, I will definitely be bored while detained in the hospital, and will reopen the entire forum. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this causes to anyone who maintains blog threads or simply wants to log in to browse the forum.
However, after consulting with the individuals who will be away and the individuals who will be left to guard the forum, I've come to the decision that I do not want to cause anyone unnecessary stress, and that everyone's health comes first. You have 3 weeks to prepare for this possible temporary limitation. I hope you will understand.
2-14-24 Update:
A 4th moderator is currently sick. I maintain that I don't want to put unnecessary pressure on anyone during this time.
