This is in regards to various entertainment stuff that was a hit, it went away, came back (yay!) but then became mediocre. Again, they shouldn't have bothered.
I'd only seen one episode and a clip of another one of the adult cgi show Tripping the Rift, spoofing sci-fi. I'm not much into juvenile sex jokes and all so I wouldn't call it "brilliant" like some others have. So it was no skin off my nose to see when it came back after originally ending and reviews said they lost their way and those new episodes were low-rated.
I feel sorry for Futurama fans when the show finally came back after 10 years recently but the ratings on the imdb have only been like a 7.1 out of 10 and the other episodes less than 7. Usually if something's less than 7 for me it isn't worth the waste of time. Those aren't high ratings.
Bands are the same, like when Aerosmith came back in the 80s but unfortunately they did stuff like "Dude Looks Like a Lady" and "Love in an Elevator". Even though they had done ballads in the past and the like (the very classic "Dream On") and the later stuff was catchy what happened to their hard rock edge? They replaced it with the Fairlight for the bass and some drum programming rather than all acoustic drums. The Eagles were the same way with whatever album "Problem Child" was on, having a sense of humor but it sounded more contemporary, rather than their timeless stuff of the past. At least with Starz, one of the earlier hard rock/metal bands (nothing to do with the later Starz cable network of the same name) had the right idea, coming up with four major studio albums from 1976-1980, breaking up, then coming back together but only releasing Requiem in 1992 (amidst a ton of live, acoustic and other cds). When someone asked one of the guitarists Ritchie Ranno if there would ever be another Starz album he said no, he didn't want something with the Starz name on it if it didn't sound like them (which, again, can happen to a lot of bands).
Occasionally SOMETHING will work though. I heard when they brought back Beavis and Butthead years ago it was the same ridiculous nonsense. With Roseanne it was only like they left for a while/aged a bit and that was it (too bad Roseanne Barr in real life shot off her mouth and got herself fired from the show).
