I know it's never easy to hear, but people don't change because YOU want them to. They have to want to change.

I understand. The old memories convince me there's hope and I believe all people are redeemable.

That may be true, but you don't have to be abused in the meanwhile.

I'm really sorry you have someone like this in your life. If you'd like to talk in more detail, we're all here.

Yes. I have someone in my life like this and I always let him return. But I decided he won't affect me negatively anymore. I'll be his crutch, not not doormat.

I let one guy in my life over and over. After 15 years, I'm only now realizing how much I let him use me. I really understand you. I'm not letting go exactly, but I'm not chasing him either.

I let go of a few people this week, to the extent that I don't feel obligated to say yes to them, and I won't feel badly for saying no!

It is. I'm realizing I don't need someone else's approval to feel good about myself.

*Nods* Exactly. Some people won't appreciate your good heart even after you bend over backwards for them.

That's just the thing. They'd ask me for help or a favor and then tell me I did it wrong.

Thank you everyone. I'm very conflicted. I don't want to cut ties. I wish things were back to the way they were. The way I see it is that we all meet people for a different reason. Most of your relationships are learning experiences, and in my opinion, it sounds like you could learn all you could from this situation. Now its their turn. Never ever feel bad for doing what is best for you. Severing a friendship is never fun or easy, but now it seems like they need time to learn and grow. I am sorry you’re going through this, but I have full confidence that you will make the best decision for yourself.
