My goal is to start writing down my dreams and learning more about dream analysis.

That's a fun resolution, especially if you tend to remember a lot.

I have to do it the second I wake. Otherwise I forget them all.

How do you plan to record dreams that have strong imagery or strong emotions rather than events or plots?

I remember up to 10 dreams every night. I jot down notes as soon as I awake in the morning. I shower, get dressed, and then write down everything before they leave my memory. Sometimes, I'll see something during the day that will remind me about a dream that I forgot. It makes me wonder that if I remember 10, how many am I having total? All of my dreams have strong imagery, metaphors, and symbols. They aren't always logical, but I enjoy interpreting the symbols and relating them to situations in my waking life. Remember though that I've been keeping a diary since I was 5. So, I am used to writing down everything. Recording emotions comes naturally to me. If it's harder for you, don't pressure yourself.

I think I remembered more when I was younger. I'm on more medicines now that mess with cognition.

I remember about 3 per night. It makes me curious when friends tell me they don't even remember 3 in an entire month. I wonder how that works.

I envy those who remember so many. I'm lucky to remember 2.

I have a particular dream that is repetitive but it also grows each time I have it. There's been three iterations so far and I'm still, anxiously, waiting for the next one. I do believe it has a deeper meaning because I first had the dream when I was younger, probably junior high or early high school. The second time I had it was probably a couple years later. And then a few years after that I think I had it again. And each time it evolved into more of a story. In the end it turned out that I was trying to get back to my sister. We'd been separated by something. The most memorable part of the dream is towards the end where I'm just running up a hill in the middle of the street lined with little shops or whatever, dust in the air, and I just hear my sister yelling my name from the other side. All I know is I need to get to her.
My mom thinks that this may have been tethered to the literal separation of my sister and I when she decided to move in with a guy she'd met online. He lived in Ohio and we lived in Iowa. She lived with him for a few years and during that timeframe is when I had the third iteration of the dream. It's been 6(?) years since she came back. The longest time between the dreams was a couple years-ish. So, I half wonder if the reason I haven't had that dream yet is because she moved back. That's what my mom thinks, too. It makes sense.
