Establish a target by Ralph Marston
What’s the best outcome you can imagine? Go into the situation expecting to get that outcome.
Expect the best, and if reality doesn’t match your expectations, go to work on that reality. Work relentlessly in the direction of your expectations.
Your expectations dictate what you’re willing to accept and what you’re not willing to accept, from yourself, from others. Set those expectations high and your results will follow accordingly, because you’ll see to it that they do so.
Your expectations won’t magically materialize into reality. What they will do is firmly establish a target.
That target exerts influence whether you’re consciously thinking about it or not. Your choices, your actions, your level of performance will aim toward your expectations.
Expect the best. And you’ll instinctively focus your efforts, your energy, everything you have, on making it so.

I'm sorry if it's not right to post it here... but thinking about targets, and work, and motivation, and then everything that happened with TG last night, I started feeling unmotivated. Why make goals or work when it can all disappear in a flash?

She spent months on all the dino blogs and they're all gone. It's just like... why bother. Sorry to be a downer.

No, your feelings are justified. What happened triggered something you are feeling in your own life.

That's true. Sometimes I wonder, "What does it all mean, where's it all going?" I get lost in the, why work if I"m gonna die anyway blues.

Javier, the fear of failure shouldn't stop you from trying.

It's not that I fear failing, I fear that all my life efforts will turn to dirt.

Don't plan so far ahead. Don't think 100 years from now. Definitely plan for your future, but don't plan for your death or worry about what happens after your death.

I don't know if I can stop that thought process. It's always been part of me.

What in your life also triggered this? It wasn't JUST what happened to Talira.

Keep making goals. Then work at your own pace to achieve them.

I’m not sure if it’s relevant or not, but I was recently listening to a podcast with my husband where the podcasters question to the listeners was “who do you want to remember you, and what do you want to be remember for?” And then your actions should correlate with those things. Without hearing the whole thing l realize that may come across a little vain, but the point was to figure out what you want to do and what is important to you and to understand you can’t always be or do everything. I feel like I really butchered that, but I tried.
