Any time I learned about psychology and psychiatrists in high school and college, I alwys wanted to visit someone like Freud, lie on a couch, and have him analyze my dreams and have him tell him everything crazy about me. I always wanted that "stereotypical" therapy experience.
However, I had two shrink consultations, and they tried too much to be my friend and too personal and I never went back. I guess I wanted more of a text book experience.
What about you all?

If I ever have to go, I'd want something old school too.

I'm also not a fan of the modern approaches. I'd take a freudian.

I can see myself agreeing to this. I don't want someone trying to be a friend.

I do see a shrink. I've gone through many. None of them want to adopt the "old" approach. They think it's outdated. And they'd prefer to try to empathize when there's no way they could.

What you're describing is what I would expect if I ever had to go. How do psychiatrists operate now? What is the current standard?

I can't really say I have a preference. I've never gone through therapy. I can't even speculate.

If therapy were like living in an episode of Frasier, I think I'd like something like that.

If therapy were like living in an episode of Frasier, I think I'd like something like that. If free pop psychology existed, I'd call in every day.

I don't know if I have a preference. But therapy could be good for me.

I don't know if I have a preference. But therapy could be good for me. everyone can benefit and there shouldn't be any stigmas.

I think any kind would scare me. It's usually made me feel worse about myself, but was never scary.
