The mighty Atari Jaguar. Released in 1993 and the very first 64 bit console... the Atari Jaguar had multiple processors, 1) was a 27mhz GPU 32-bit RISC 4KB internal RAM. 2) was a 27mhz Digital Signal Processor – 32-bit RISC. 3) Motorola 68000 General purpose 16/32-bit control processor, 13 mhz As you can see the Jaguar was released in 1993 a year before the Sony Playstaion and Sega Satun. It was hard to say what system's the Atari Jaguar was going up against. Some said it was the SNES and Genesis/Mega Drive. It was the software on the Jaguar that many people believed this as it really wasnt much better than the 16 bit consoles and this also look to he true when the Jaguar CD was released. Others said the Saturn and Playstation due to the Jaguar being 64 bit. The controller of the Jaguar is different to other controllers in that it resembled a modern controller with a keyboard attached. An overlay of what the buttons do for games could be used. However only a few games used this feature. There was around 50 games released for the Jaguar and most could be found on other systems. The exclusive games were forgettable except for a select few like Alien v Predator and Tempess 2000. I will highlight Doom as a great game also on the Jag. Yes it was multiformat but there was something special about the Jag version. Or it could be just me trying to find something, anything The Console sold around 250,000 units which was a shame. When scoring hardware I look at software releases, amount of software and how good the software is. The Jag was discontinued in 1996 only three years of release. Neo-Geo also had very little software released but 90% of it was great. Same can't be said about the Jag. Maybe with more support a longer shelf life it could of been something special. Even the cost of console was very good at $250. Who knows but as it is
