I always make it a goal to have family peace. Is it stupid? I want us all to get along, but I guess you can't change people.

At my point in my life, I've given up trying to change people.

I'd love this w/o a doubt. It's not dumb to hope.

It's not family if everyone gets along.

trying for peace is always ok to do, but no you can't change people who don't want to change.

I always make it a goal to have family peace. Is it stupid? I want us all to get along, but I guess you can't change people. It's not stupid to hope, but sometimes it's really painful. I don't know if this will help, but I feel like a lot of families fight so hard because they don't know how to resolve problems. It's not the problems themselves, but how destructive they are when they are suffering. Counseling has helped me a lot in this area. My husband and I are usually able to resolve most problems with a simple discussion and although my family still has a lot of problems, I feel like they've gotten better at finding resolutions and working things out with each other than they use to be. We're still all very different. My parents are republicans. My brother is a libertarian. My husband and I are liberals. And we all have different religions, so we all have very different ways of view in the world, but we're learning how to talk to each other and get along.
