Serious question. I have family that only causes pain and suffering. Family dinners are a nightmare!

No. It's holiday dinners and whenever they start text wars.

No. It's holiday dinners and whenever they start text wars. Is it possible to just not participate?

I would avoid them. You're an adult. No reason to go.

I don't go to most family events anymore because of this.

I get what you are saying purple, but if you are like me, I think a part of you wants to see them and you just wish they'd behave

^We unfortunately can't change people.

Some people are easier to live without. It's sad when it's family, but it happens.

My dad lives with us at the moment, but he's pretty chill. My mom- only in quantities.
My family as a whole is a drama fest, though as I've grown older I've learned to care less. Last event, my aunt got so hammered she was in my face about kicking my dad out because he was "going to take advantage of me." She was very drunk and saying a lot of very stupid things. Half funny/half embarrassing/half sad...but doesn't run my day anymore when my aunts/mom/uncles fight...I just do my own thing.

To be honest, I handle it by going to therapy. And it does help a lot. Even though I am the only one in therapy, my therapist has given me some suggestions that have helped me get my family to "behave" better. It's difficult and it doesn't change them exactly, but there are less fights than there used to be.

Serious question. I have family that only causes pain and suffering. Family dinners are a nightmare! Family for me is a lot like a spouse. You take the good with the bad and continually hope the bad will be in your absence.
