I saw this on GT and thought it would be fun to do here. (Yes I asked permission.)
The post below is what Robert from GT shared and I want to see what you guys come up with.
Here's how it works:
If you want to decorate the tree, make a post stating that you are decorating.
Set your timer for 30 minutes and get to work! Save the most recently updated tree on your computer (right click, save image as, chose folder, save!), then open any image editing program you have or want to use. Paint, GIMP, photoshop, or whatever.
Get creative! Add a string of lights, or a present, a star, an ornament, whatever! You can make it pixel by pixel on paint or find a free to use image online to add! (Please be nice and don't cover half the tree though).
Once you finish, save your image as a .PNG, as that will retain it's quality. Don't save it as a .JPG because that will lower the quality. We wouldn't want an 8-bit Christmas tree now would we?
Upload the image to an image hosting website such as imageshack, photobucket, tinypic, etc.
Copy the direct url, then modify your post stating you are decorating, and add the tree via [ img ] [ / img ] (image tags) or the WYSIWYG editor.
Watch your addition to the tree shine with glory.
Profit!
Some notes:
Please don't decorate the tree if someone else has claimed the spot first. Wait the 30 minutes patiently. If after 35 minutes at the most the decorator hasn't come back, then go ahead and post saying you will decorate. Hopefully confusion will not pursue and feeling won't get hurt!
You can comment on each other's additions to the tree! We can have discussions about what ideas we have to add or whatever. But if you want to argue about if Santa is real or if God exists or if Firefox is better than Internet Explorer, please do so in another thread. Pointlessly debating about such topics on the Internet do not need to intermingle in this thread.
Have fun! Don't be a Grinch! Even if you don't believe in God and hate Christmas, have a try on this graphical challenge for the month of December. When else can you say you added stuff to a tree on the Internet?
Stuck on where to find a website with clip art that you can edit on the tree? How about the same place the tree came from?
That's it! I hope you will all enjoy this. I look forward to seeing everyone's imagination come to work!
