I think the word "icon" fits better. They are people who are looked up too, but they aren't heroes. Most of them do nothing real for society.

Icons can be respected and looked to, and are certainly modeled after in eyes of young people (and sometimes old too...). But the word hero to me is reserved for people that save lives and do things that benefit people beyond entertainment |

I think there may be some who try to be a positive influence, serve in the military and donate to charity. They would be considered heroes to me.
