so i rent in an apartment one of my dumbass friends (not really he's awesome) got wasted and fell asleep in the bathroom. wakes up and he's ripped the towel hanger off the wall: i.imgur.com/qeKU0qXh.jpgshow landlord, she sends repair guy to quote, he says he needs to patch, etc i ask if she has any of the same paint to go over the patch, and she responds with a HE MUST REPAINT THE ENTIRE WALL ON YOUR DIME etc etc crap, and i must pay for an entire new can of whatever paint. she also states that it's been 7 years since the last renovation looking up tenant norms, it seems that 2-3 years is the standard for repainting if i just have him patch the wall and not paint, am i kind of in the clear? it seems long since due for a new paintjob (tons of scuffs/scrapes that she did a walkthrough and yeah its all fine) on her dime.

i like to keep my landlord apprised of the condition of the building this is the first landlord that i've ever had that hasn't really 'worked with me' on issues and just goes straight to 'YOU PAY NOW YOU NO QUESTION' bullcrap

I think it really depends I was in an apt for 5 years and the carpets were real tore up and walls were scuffed here and there and they didn't take any of it out of our deposit

a can of paint is like 30 dollars and painting a wall is easy. pick a new color and do it yourself.

I'd think it would be on her to do the repairs. It's a new place right? Check the lease.

The contract should say who is responsible for paying for paintjobs, but YOU have to pay for the damage

I think you need to pay for what you broke, but no more.

If tehre's a code where she has to fix the paint every x years, then that's on her. But you have to fix your own damages.

I would check your lease terms and then talk it over with the LL.
