Lol. Not quite sure if this is a hobby, but my parents like to troll the neighborhood before trash pickups and collect people's unwanted stuff. Does anyone here do this? Ever find anything good?

No, I dont collect trash. But sometimes I'll visit pawn shops and see what's out there to collect.

I'd prefer to find treasures at a garage sale, not the trash.

I'd prefer to find treasures at a garage sale, not the trash. I used to do that when my income was lower. You could find some nice stuff.

At the county trash dump/facility, people will leave used/slightly damaged goods on the side vice throwing them in the big container. I've gotten a cool neon budweiser sign (needed some slight work from me) that works great, some cool diecast metal replica cars someone left behind and a nice entrance table.
I always keep an eye out. I mean, it's not jumping in the trash bin per say, but if it's free and I can use it, I'll take it.

I dont dig through stuff people leave by the curb, but I visit freecycle networks and trade stuff in.

Pretty much just trading unwanted goods.

Kinda like the free ads on craigslist?

Yeah, sorta. Just free stuff on a first come first serve basis.

If online, you usually pay shipping.

My grandpa did this, worked but well for him especially because he lived near wealthy doctors who threw out a decent amount of nice, gently used items. Especially clothing. Grandma had some designer duds that grandpa got her for free because of dumpster diving XD
