I'll be honest, I've only been there like twice, but it HURTS. Everything always comes back ok, but am I the only one it's awkward for?

It's not really "painful" it's just very uncomfortable and COLD.

I've never been but I'm putting it off as long as possible (maybe that's stupid, whatever) because I'm terrified of it. I have... emotional reasons... I can't let someone look or put their hands or anything down there unless I've known them for a long time and trust them very very well. Like I'm seriously petrified of going for that exam.

^I almost threw up the first time I went (like before hand)
But it really wasnt that bad. If you are sexually active, you should visit at least once

I'm going to go when I turn 21 because that's the recommended age.

That's outdated information, trust me, my mom is a certified women's health care provider of 15 years. It's 21 now. Aside from that there are other factors that play in. Those exams are mostly preventive of cervical cancer and if you've only ever slept with one partner in your life, and/or have been vaccinated against HPV there's really no reason to need that exam before 21 anyway, (or at all) but they still do it. Standard.

I actually just went to the doctors and spoke with someone and it *used* to be "every year, either 22 or a year after intercourse" now it is "22 and every 3 years"(spoke with this dr literally 2 days ago) anyways, I would agree with the not painful, just uncomfortable, cold, and embarrassing/awkward

I first read GYN as GYM. Almost replied. It's not that bad it only hurts the first time that you go and then it gets better, because your muscles are getting stronger and used it it.

Yeah, never had an internal before and I'm 22.

IMO if you are sexually active like in your teens you should probably go earlier.

IMO if you are sexually active like in your teens you should probably go earlier. Medical research and evidence set a guideline for providers that it's standard at 21. Not before. Edit: I realized that might have come off as bossy or arrogant and I didn't mean for it to be!
