Does anyone have a pet turtle? Do they really live to be 30?
I wanted to buy a baby one, but it's apparently illegal here.

The baby ones are illegal to buy here too. You have to get 9in or bigger.

^People used to keep them in coffee cups and got salmonella poisoning.

Yes they live that long. I just wish they'd stay mini.

I have always wanted a pet turtle, my friend has one and they're sooo cute! Except I would have a tank for it and not stick it in a cup and get it sick, poor baby turtles.

Yeah they say to get them a 30 gallon tank. It would be a pet for life.

A pet for 30 years is amazing, but takes a major commitment.

oh my god this is it this is my moment to shine You beat me to it! Back to the question, yes, many reptiles live a very long time in captivity so long as they are properly taken care of. My python is expected to live 25 or 30 years (documented record is 48 years). -darc
