First off, you might need to put off a bit of time in order to check this out. I put off putting this up for a few days now (someone posted it on my forum), but now that it's the weekend, why not?
Here you control a tank (or maybe a gun turret, I'm not sure), spinning around to four areas of a battlefield and gunning down various vehicles before they knock away your shields and an underground bunker you're trying to protect.
There's several keys that are needed for the game (mouse, the A and D keys to move left and right and W for a quick 180 degree spin, and a few other keys for special weapons [E for EMP blast, Q for nuclear bomb, and spacebar for missiles]) but those are introduced over time via the onscreen tutorials. After every round you survive you get to buy stuff to help you out.
For the beginners, the waves are a bit unbalanced, as at times you're surrounded as hell, at other times you're waiting and waiting for the next wave of bad guys to show up. Ok, so I like the atmosphere of it all, but sheesh. But at the medium skill level those times are diminished. And then once you get to the Survival Mode, things really change: instead of waves, you can upgrade at any time (providing you've got the cash) by pressing R, and prices are lower, but the game gets even more difficult, as it takes longer to get a lock on things with missiles (and meanwhile they're getting closer...), the EMP doesn't last as long as it should (actually that's the way it is on the beginner level anyway), and once the damn Cormonant (however that's spelled) shows up on your radar, you're dead meat; even a nuclear bomb plus several missiles isn't going to take it out on a single pass. Plus the damn game designer really seems to favor those Darts and the green flying things a lot, which a crapload of them takes up your missiles pretty big time if your guns aren't upgraded enough to shoot them all down one by one, and they keep on passing and passing over while doing damage...
This is a near-great game, but the difficulty level's pretty high; I can't quite give it a 7 out of 10, so it gets a 6.75. I've been playing it for several nights though.
