Renting a home > *
Not cemented to one location for 20+ years Can move to a new location every 12-24 months if you get bored of your neighborhood Still get the benefits of a home (front yard, back yard, driveway, not wall-to-wall with next door tenants) Never any property taxes sh*t breaks? Call the landlord, he pays for all maintenance. Your neighbors suck? Its ok, just start looking for your next home lease, your lease will be over soon.
Owning a home is overrated.
When the average home around here is still near 400-700k for a tiny 2 bedroom house built in the 1950's, its almost pointless now.
Sometimes i wish I lived in some other flyover state where big new homes with 500acres of land can be had for 90k.

investment vs pissing money away...hmm
to me, renting is always a waste. you cant built equity and when you leave the property, you have nothing. you've spent thousands and have NOTHING to show for it

I pay the same per month with a mortgage as I did in rent on a smaller older house. That's including taxes and insurance. I did carry renter's insurance but it was like $15 a month.
Wall mount TV, paint room, put holes in walls, don't give a **** Install new fans and lights, keep that sh*t 8 dogs in house? no problem I own it
Renting is a waste

hard to say what will happen to the property market.
if you were looking for an investment though i would think stocks, etc. would be better at this point since you doing have anything to maintain, property taxes, etc.

It's a good idea for everyone and a bad idea for everyone. It's all about timing.
I personally like equity, but that's just me.

The only thing I really hate about ownership is being at the mercy of local governments and their unions jacking your property taxes way up.
