Thought I'd do a bit of a different thread where you could rag on bland-tasting stuff and/or crappy food chains.
Inspiring me to put this up was mom bringing home some Veggie Patch Chik'n Cutlets yesterday from the store. I eagerly gave one a try today. I assume that with the company being "Veggie Patch" that it's an all vegetarian food (I hadn't read the contents yet actually), although it seems odd that Boca Burgers' all veggie chicken product also has the same misspelling of Chik'n as well with their Patties (say what?).
Wow, I could barely taste this thing at all when I got it out of the oven and wrapped bread around it. The Boca Burgers Chik'n Patties are way better. And only three more to go, whee!
Now, I haven't eaten in this place in years, but Taco Cabana has THE blandest food I've ever had. Why they're so damn popular I don't know. Maybe they've improved but I doubt it.
Once when I helped a friend move in the early 1990s he was pretty generous about it, saying he'd buy us all dinner for helping out. During a first offer for a break if we wanted dinner yet or drinks we all said "drink!" So we stopped at a convenience store and loaded up on drinks, then like an hour later we realized with all the energy we were burning off how hungry we were after all.
So we went to the Cabana, there were five of us, each of us got something different, and it all sucked. Only guy who didn't complain has a "ho hum, gee whiz" attitude about everything in general, so he didn't count though, a real low blood pressure guy, to say the least. I had to run for the bathroom when I got home later in the evening.
Last time I ate there was like 10 years ago. Same old crap! I can't remember what I ordered but it was some combo deal where I got one ___, some ___, some crispy thing that was about the size of a fist, a taco or something, whatever; the meal came with five different things altogether. And every single one of them was so bland it wasn't funny.
Taco Cabana, in my opinion, is what gives foreigners with much richer food the low brow towards America where they say "I can't taste your food at all, it's like there's nothing there".
