Someone used my cast iron skillet and didn't clean it. So I'm scotch brite-ing it and re-seasoning it.
Can I season it if there's still some seasoning on it or should I scour it so it's totally bare metal?

The cooking surface was all rusted, hence having to re-season it.

A) Scrap all seasoning and start over fresh
B) Ditch the Scotch-Brite and kill two birds with one stone, throw the skillet in an auto-cleaning oven and set it to the clean cycle.
C) Let us know when the seasoning attempt fails

I think you have to scrub it all out. My cast iron pot got rusted, I have to do this now. I think its just the lid.

I got 95% of it out. I think it'll be fine. Drying now then in the oven it goes.

ive been using the same cheapo teflon pan for years and its showing zero signs of wear and not warping at all
