1999-2004ish>* for reals. those games were fun and all but if you just put nostalgia aside 1999-2004 were the best years.

90s were incredible for games. Every once in a while we still get some really brilliant standouts though that are as good as anything

That being said they were great for their time, but gaming has evolved, and in most ways for the better

i disagree. it has evolved to include better graphics and more little intricate things you can do within the game, but at the same time games nowadays can be beaten in a matter of hours or a day or two.

Depends on the game. Try playing the games on the hardest settings. Also I see this as an improvement. I don't have time to beat a near impossible battle toads level. Games that are hard just for the sake of being difficult are dumb. I play games to have fun, not to frustrate myself.

even on a hard difficulty setting, most games nowadays dont take long to get through.

Most games back then were hard because there wasn't enough space to include a lengthy game. In Battletoads, every level was different, there were different sprites needed for all levels, etc. It had to be hard because it had to be short. Hell, Super Mario 3 (which isn't pictured...) can be beaten in 11 minutes if done right.
