if i had to pick one, it would be my direct manager at a Ramada. my bro & i both worked there doing banquet set-up. simply, we set up banquet rooms for various events (weddings, meetings, etc). cleaned up once they left. the manager that initially hired us was one of the coolest guys ever. left us alone, knew how to have a little fun if he did have to bother us for anything.
the guy that eventually took over for him, on the other hand, was the polar opposite. he had absolutely no faith in anyone outside a couple of his "pets". my bro & i somehow managed to become the scapegoats for him. anything that went wrong was somehow our faults. didn't matter if we were even at work when something went to hell. it would still be our fault. i'd lay odds that our co-workers fed into this. nothing that i can prove, mind you, so i'll try to leave them out of it.
heaven help if you did something that made him look like a moron. it could be as simple as actually doing our jobs correctly. seriously, something as simple as doing our jobs right managed to make him look like a moron.....mostly because he knew nothing about how to do his. if my bro or i were working alone on a slow night (1 or 2 small things needed to be done, extra cleaning, etc), he'd try to "spy" on us. didn't do a very good job at it. didn't think we'd do any work, assuming that we'd just goof off all night.
it was considered no secret that he was looking for any excuse he could to get us fired. took him a year, roughly, to pull it off, but he pulled it off. i won't go into details of that story, but it was something i deserved partial blame on.
only justice i had was knowing the moron didn't last long after my bro & i were gone. i never found out specifics. only thing i could find out was that upper management was finding out just how much of a screw up this guy was on the job, that he was using the bro & i as scape goats for his own problems. heard many of the piece of crap coworkers didn't last long, either.
a close second would probably be a manager of mine from a Mexican restaraunt. dude was a weasel, of sorts. always had a way of making a person feel like crap if they didn't come into work on a day off. if i didn't call him right up after getting a message from him, he'd chew my ass over the phone. didn't matter if it was 11 PM or 11 AM. he seemed to think i was obligated to sit by the phone and wait to be called into work.
he was one of those guys that thought that everyone should be married to the job, even if they were only part-time people. my brother had worked part-time at this place, as he managed to get another job that was full-time. the boss in question couldn't grasp the concept that my brother had bigger priorities in his life then a part time job at a restaraunt. brother got sick of the crap & finally quit. left on good terms. yet, the boss would take it out on me by cutting my hours, only to insist i be available to work on those days off at the drop of a hat.
didn't do it to me alone, either. he somehow had ways of riding many people to the point that they'd break into tears. didn't matter if it was men or women. he could make anyone break into tears.
got to the point that as soon as i found another job, i gave a 1 day notice. told them i'd finish off my shift and i was gone. i think 1 particular manager seemed to understand my reasoning for bailing, that it was happening for my own good. one of the guys that was affected by my quitting, after learning about my quitting, couldn't figure out if he wanted to be ticked or laugh. so, he just did both. got mad for awhile, then laughed about the whole thing, knowing it ticked off management.
