i always wanted to know.
say somebody mentions something about rape, and a week down the track a girl is raped in that area, can someone else on this board or any board snitch on that dude and get him arrested?
even regular threats, will they be able to be used against you in the court of law?
or does the alias/anonymity factor play a vital role in that?

they'd have to prove who posted it.
IPs are logged everwhere, and if it's a legal issue, the admin of any site can give up your IP to the police.

Yes, if the person admits it was them. Yes, if you can prove who it is.

It could bite you in the ass.
I know they passed a law that if you tell someone to mix bleach and ammonia to clean their bathroom, and they do it and die you can't be held liable.

Yes it can. Legal precedent has been set that they have used what has been said online to prosecute individuals.

I guess what I mean is, do you have to be super careful?
Do I have to worry about all the advice I post online?

Just don't go out of your way to post something you know is wrong.
Giving information/advice that's correct to the best of your knowledge shouldnt be an issue.

Advice shouldn't be a problem because the person you're advising doesn't have to follow the advice. It's completely up to them what they do, and the consequences of their actions are all on them.

even regular threats, will they be able to be used against you in the court of law? What kind of threats are you talking about here? (Gee, NOW what have you done? ) Just threatening someone of "I'm going to kick your ass" is illegal, and ESPECIALLY don't make a death threat towards anyone, although it depends on how serious individual judges take those threats as, since here in Texas the latter is what's known as a Peace Bond, which its bail amount is $2000. I worked for a justice of the peace judge in a precinct here (which the county is divided up into eight precincts with two judges per precinct) and we roughly only filed one or two peace bonds per year I was there, which there was only one or two filed in 1988, 1989 and 1990, and I don't recall if one was filed in 1991 or not (the last year I was there), and the other judge in our precinct had supposedly never accepted one being filed in his courtroom in twelve years.

Anything you write anywhere can technically be held against you.

I wouldnt be that paranoid, but just dont threaten anyone....or tell them to DIAF. Simple as that.
Even little handwritten notes can be used against you.

If you commit a crime, don't confess it online.
If you are doing something like saying,"LOL. Rapes are funny." Then everyone will think you're a jerk (or laugh along with you), but you won't get into trouble. Even if there's rapes all over your town.

^But maybe if he jokes about an actual rape by name, and says "Oh the victim is hot, I'd hit it"
And people researched online and whatever..
Maybe THEN he'd get called in if they traced everything and cared enough
