Do not promote illegal downloading of any kind in the thread.
However, state whether or not you think piracy is wrong and why. Do you think Napster should have been shut down? Do you think p2p sharing is as dangerous as they're making it sound?

I don't know what P2P is, but if it wasn't bad it wouldn't be called 'piracy', it'd be 'public domain', 'free stuff' (which a lot of the times it is) or 'I don't give a rat's butt if you download this for free and don't pay for it'. And not to sound anal about it, but just looking at it in a literal way due to past legal experience, that's why it's called piracy and why it's wrong.
Yes, Napster did deserve to be shut down initially since they violated copyright laws flat and simple. They're supposedly totally legit now (overseen by courts) so they should be left alone, to the best of my knowledge.

Honsetly, if you're not paying for media, it's stealing in my book. It's as simple as that

If you paid for it once, and then lost a copy, I dont think it should be wrong to download it again.

The extent that it's happening is definitely wrong. I mean one person's purchase turns into a song that 300,000 people now have for free.

Entertainment takes work to make whether its television shows (actors, writers, producers), books, music, or whatever. People have to work full time to be able to give us anything good and they deserve money for their efforts.

Well, it depends on the format: dvds are monstrously cheap for the most part. Downloading songs, when paid for, usually don't cost much either. And if you listen to tunes first before deciding to buy (which can very easily happen) then you're not wasting much (or any, really) since you're sure already that you've liked the tunes enough to warrant buying them.
