slow the forum down at all? I'm at about 400 messages.. and if it's doing any damage, I'll delete them... scouts honor.

Does it do damage to have that many messages?
Honestly, on other proboards forums I've had messages that ranged in the thousands and it was never a problem.

There's a bigger risk of losing them. That's about it

i dont think it would slow it down unless they are being accessed. i assume the number of messages you have is stored somewhere on the server and when you load the page it retrieves this number. The only way it MIGHT make it slower is if you overflow the datatype that it is stored as (i.e. probably around 32000 PMs)

it really depends on the server too

Don't worry about it - it's just a simple SQL statement that does a count(1) on your messages... even if you had zero it would do the same query, but it would come back with 0 instead of how many you currently have.
Doesn't really slow anything down (though if everyone has message numbers in the hundreds of thousands, it might be noticeable).
It's actually more dependent on the number of people with messages than it is the number of messages per person. -darc

There's a bigger risk of losing them. That's about it Yea, when you start getting in the higher numbers, it will automatically delete your older PMs.
