Weird idea, not sure how to explain it or how you'd incorporate it, but i'll give it a try
i think it would be cool to have relationships somewhere in our mini profile...
like if I want a "relationship" with potter ... he and I can be linked somehow, maybe with a custom symbol or title that only we share
anyone get what I mean, or like the idea?

Another board I post on used to have a "marriage" feature, where you married another member and it showed in your profile who your spouse was and how long you'd been married, and you could have kids and everything. It was cute.

would the other person have to approve the marriage? how does it work?
Say I wanted to marry a girl on this board, but she didnt want to marry me? do I send a request and she gets it in a PM or something?

That's how it was on the other board. You proposed, and the other person could either accept or deny it.

I know what your talking about. I was on a forum that used to have that feature, but I have never seen it on a proboards forum before.
