Fans just blow around the hot air IMO. Maybe get a small window unit until y our central is fixed. Your body (by design) maintains a still layer of air around your body as insulation - which means it holds in heat. Fans disperse this layer of air (heat) and therefore cool your body by carrying heat away from your skin surface. -darc

I cant deal with heat very well. I woke up 4 times already and dont think I'll get back to sleep I wish we had fans or something!! Our a/c went out just before summer hit fullswing - so we had time to shop around for a replacement. Ended up costing us $3,200 for a new unit (and installation) and that was the cheapest price by over $1k (was an old friend). It was hot while we shopped around, but we had plenty of fans and we sleep comfortably at about 78F... so if we stayed awake until about 2am then it cooled off enough to sleep anyway : D -darc

potter... antifreeze prevents freezing and friction in the engine it doesnt help with the temperature of anything i'm not a mechanic so i'm trying to use SOME common sense and explain why i DON'T need the a/c. my car won't die if i don't have the a/c. i bet people are going to tell me i need heat in the winter or my engine will freeze. i don't know the best way to keep the engine from overheating. people say it's the thermostat and the radiator (coolants, etc) i'm talking to the roommate tomorrow, and i guarantee that the a/c has nothing to do with anything. i don't need it. i'm not trying to be an asshole, but a lot of people who get in the car with me complain that i need to turn it on. i have a/c now, but last year when i didn't, people wanted me to get it, but didn't want to pay for the parts and labor lol. anything you turn on meaning the a/c or the heat uses MORE power from the engine. this goes for a/c's in homes too. when everybody on the block turns their a/c on, it uses more power/electricity and that's why we have outages mostly in the summer. i'll agree that it keeps things cooler, because people working with machinery want to keep everything in a huge room cool so they use a/c, but when it comes to cars, you really don't need one. there are other alternatives to keeping your car cool. older cars have other methods. you won't die with no a/c...

^Dude.
EXCESSIVE HEAT IS UNHEALTHY.... People get dehydrated, have strokes, and cant breathe.
Trying to breathe in too much hot, humid air, whether you are a person, or appliance, or car trying to use that air is BAD...
Even electronics at home will stop working in very hot temperatures.
