when I was a kid I always had trouble sleeping xmas eve thinking about all the cool sh*t I would be getting. Then as I got older and had gf's I always just was happy to spend time with them and give them something that made them happy, which in turn made me happy. This is my 2nd xmas in a row without a gf and seriously, it just ****ing sucks being alone during the holidays ftl

Christmas changes for everyone when we get older.
Christmas used to hold a lot of meaning for me when I was a kid, but not so much anymore. It meant gifts, sure, but it also meant it was a time to cherish having a close-knit family and a time to forget about all the bad sh*t that had happened through the previous year.
Now? Christmas is just a reminder to buy stuff for people I dont want to exchange gifts with

I've never not been single on Xmas. Or New Year's. Or Valentine's Day.
Short summer relationships for the win… and lose?

Well, one aspect of it all (that doesn't have to do with having a partner or not) is the over-commercialization of it, as everything looks GREAT on those tv ads to kids.
Unfortunately a lot of presents may only bring you a few hours of joy in reality and you get bored quickly with them or you need someone else in order to play with them (and there isn't always someone else around in most cases). So I think that plays a part in it once you age and all.
Then you usually feel differently when you start working and all and realize it IS better to give than receive when you can give a gift that makes someone happy, since most kids don't have money. So it's all mostly an age/perception thing to me, in my opinion.

I actively look forward to the party part. It's the rest of the year that gets in the way.

I agree with you on this. I see Christmas very differently now. As a kid, I always looked at it as a time for toys and excitement and Santa.
Now I see it more like you . . . a time for giving to other people (if I have money XD) and spending time with the people I love. The problem is my family isn't very into holidays so they don't want to spend time with me during it. =( And my fiance lives across the country from me right now. T_T So I get sad thinking about how far away he is from me. I can't wait until he lives with me and we're married and I can actually spend Christmas with him.

When I was younger I used to get excited by the fact that 'Santa' would visit and I was so excited I couldn't sleep. Now, I still think it's a great time but it's not the same 'magical' experience.
