I'm not very PC saavy, so work with me here... I don't know much of the terminology here, or even the root of the problem (although it could be Proboards' fault), but is there some way to get the site to recognize the Opera browser better? 'Cause at times the icons don't show up in order to indicate if there's been a new post on a forum or not...at times I'll go to the bathroom, and they STILL haven't loaded, so it's not like I'm not waiting long enough for them to load...other times even hitting Reload either won't help, or it takes a d@mn long time...and it's annoying to click into a forum, and I've already seen all of the messages that I plan on reading. So, does anyone know what I'm talking about, or if this can even be done? It's probably the Proboard layout, as even someone as big and powerful as Yahoo won't fix all the problems they have with Opera, as they once said that Opera didn't have much of a user following...which over 12 million of us worldwide use it. I started having problems with their mail a few weeks AFTER they upgraded to 100 megs, it was pretty stupid, it didn't happen at the very beginning. Humph. (I only just now downloaded a much newer version of Netscape just last week than the one we have, but I don't feel like switching back and forth to Netscape for only a couple of things anyway...plus I forget sometimes anyhow, until things start going wonky at the one or two sites that has a problem with Opera ) Anyway, just wondering...like I said, probably Proboards.

wait until someone more computer literate steps in, but i was gonna say it's the browser too. most sites are mostly compatible with IE, and there are things other browsers can't display properly

Different browsers display pages differently. -There are just many web sites that Opera can't render at all or displays as an unreadable page. (Tech support is very slow and problems are always blamed on "bad web site programming" ) If Opera can read them, then almost anything else can too... (Meaning, Opera tends to have problems with many sites)

Different browsers display pages differently. -There are just many web sites that Opera can't render at all or displays as an unreadable page. I haven't run into that yet, but I've got one site where a giant graphic comes up...and only half of it shows, on the very right side of the page (Tech support is very slow and problems are always blamed on "bad web site programming" ) Dealt with 'em before, eh? ;D Well, I won't waste my time calling them...actually the stuff isn't a big deal, just kind of annoying. If Opera can read them, then almost anything else can too... (Meaning, Opera tends to have problems with many sites) Luckily I haven't run into many, and I've got Netscape 6.2, but I'm not totally switching over to using just that since it has a few bugs in it, but not even half as many as the atrocious 6.0 did (and don't even TELL me 7.1 is out now [or maybe it's 7.2], that'll take half of the entire memory on this computer, and it just had more added to it!).

I'd say most likely it isn't a browser problem....probably a host problem (kicks wolf in the crotch). For one thing - if your net connection has any filtering on it (like state provided) then it blocks his host (like mine does at work) so they will never load. Also, it could be getting bogged down with traffic and the server is just having a hard time serving the info. Wolf: Are you using a free server? I figure you would....and it seems like it is since the state blocks it (they block most freeserves). Fatal: Try Mozilla or Firebird ( www.mozilla.org ) and if you have the same problem it's definitely the server. If it starts working....well then proboards is GAY(er than we already know) and is breaking their code for Opera like M$ does. -DarC/\NarC

Fatal: Try Mozilla or Firebird ( www.mozilla.org ) and if you have the same problem it's definitely the server. Nah, I can't load too many things on this crappy computer, or it starts acting screwy...just updated Netscape though, and that'll all I'm using...Opera and Netscape. Not going to bother with a third... If it starts working....well then proboards is GAY(er than we already know) and is breaking their code for Opera like M$ does. Probably, since things are loading up fine left and right tonight. Oh well, I'm happy now (as far as that goes, anyway).

I'd have to say it's the host of the pictures. Sometimes the pictures dont load for me either.
