Is 8 GB ram overkill for gaming?

for gaming yes it's overkill....
you are more interested in texture memory, the memory that comes on your video card
that would make more of a difference than anything else....

4gb limit was a limitation on 32bit processor architecture.....

so if you are having problem with more than that you're either using a 32bit processor or a 32bit OS or both....

then there's the whole paging bs....

most likely. getting 8 gigs of ram for that system is like

we probably won't need that much ram for a long time. 2 gigs is even fine for gaming. i run stuff with 1.25 gigs and it's fine so far.
