Last year, we went to Charleston, SC for a food/history walking vacation. We traveled with some distant family and ended up having a real good time. We stayed in a hotel near the touristy southern part of the city and really enjoyed walking everywhere. We planned our trip around food destinations, with a couple of reservations we had made earlier in the year so as to not miss out (Husk, etc). I didn't think we'd have enough to do outside of eating, but after a full seven days there we all agreed we'd go back some day.
This year we want to do it again, but in a different city, to try and get the same experience (More or less) we enjoyed in Charleston.
We considered Brooklyn, but...it might be a little bit too fast paced for us, especially with crowded public transit and whatever. I really don't even know if that's a concern tbh. It might be something I'd rather do with just my own family...a little more flexibility to get into restaurants.
The rest of the list, in no specific order:
New Orleans: We'd like to go for the food again, as we enjoyed everything we had in Charleston. Plus it's warm...and the warmth is always a nice break regardless of where you are.
Nashville: Lots of stuff to see and do, I hear. Lots of good restaurants as well.
Seattle: I hear it's a neat city, and I hear it's easy to get around in. Same thing with the eating situation...would be cool to try some ultra acidic, under extracted light roast coffee too.
Austin: I hear a lot about Austin, but I'm not sure if that's geared more towards young couples/singles than families. I know there's a large Austin contingent on OT though, so i was hoping to get some advice.
Miami: Warm, lot of options for food and since it's a bit more touristy I imagine there's a lot of fun stuff for the kids to do. Plus, when it's warm out it doesn't really matter what you're doing as long as there are decent things to eat.
Anyway, would appreciate any advice some can give.
Here are some random shots of our trip to Charleston for your trouble.
