Half of this guy's album (with some friends) is pretty good crossover/culture music. With the opening of "Overture: Crossing Cultures", for the first minute you get a tabla solo. I was going "when's the crossover stuff going to come in?", when BAM, Gaurav's sitar comes in, followed by fellow musician Maya's violin. THIS. IS. DAMN. COOL. Tom's cello comes in after a while too. Then with "Joy", you get more of this, although nearly three out of the four last minutes is a lengthy tabla solo, which could've been trimmed. Unfortunately things go downhill with "Meeting", which would've been more appropriately titled as "Double Whammy: We Realized Someone Forgot the Sheet Music AND We Found Out We Have No More Coffee, But We Decided to Play Anyway", as everyone has some nice parts that come and go and that's about it. If several minutes were cut out and edited they could've had a decent piece. The closer of "Finale" *could* be good to mellow out to except for the last three and a half minutes where they do a pretty cool, sped up jam (as I guess they found their coffee after all). If you like a cross between the middle eastern sitar sound coupled with classical music (NOT the boring kind), this is definitely worth a listen. Too bad the whole thing isn't as good as the first two pieces though but this definitely merits a bit of attention (at least you can buy them individually, which I'm on track to doing at some point). Crossing Cultures: India and the West album

Kind of interesting. Not my typical genre, but not bad at all.

First, thanks to whoever mod moved this. I originally posted this in Entertainment, then went "oh wait, we've got 'indie musicians' as BOTM, don't we?". Duh! Oh well, over two months without enough sleep can do that to a person. Do you know when they started playing? No, don't know anything about anyone in this group. As a guess I'd say that the classical musicians have been playing for years, possibly Gaurav too.

Yarn probably moved it with her swiftness. In for more indie tunes.

Does anyone have a favorite? Where should I start? I'd go with their opening track, it's the shortest and the best one.
