Do you know who you are buying a gift for? That makes it easier. If it's completely blind, everyone gets a gift they hate.

I play a card game called Magic, and our friend group does a secret santa for this every year. Everyone gets 1 person and builds that person a personalized custom deck. It's been a ton of fun, this is our 5th year doing it. Defintiely better than the normal secret santa things. My dad's family used to do one when I was young, but I was always too young to get into it

Do you know the person you are buying for? Or is it a blind Secret Santa?

At work, and I was matched with someone I didn't know well. It works better if you know the people. Then you can do more thoughtful gifts.

I did in school where it was a double blind and we all just picked a gift out of a box. No one got anything good. I did one at work where we knew each other and knew a good gift to get the other person. That one was good.

The one at my church 2 years ago was fun because we knew everyone and there were thoughtful gifts.
When I did it in school, we just had to bring in a gender neutral gift and everyone picked one at random. No one got anything they wanted.

One time by force and all I got was a $5 gift card to a music store.
One time by choice and I got a candle and some perfume.

Let us know if you get anything good and what gift you are picking for your person.

It's so much fun when you know the person you are buying for and you can get them a thoughtful gift. It's NOT fun when you're doing it blindly and have no idea who they are. I hope you have a good experience.

The one at work was bad because it's a big company and no one really knows anyone. Everyone got generic gifts.
The one I did once with family was good. We knew each other personally and picked out thoughtful gifts.
