Video Games have really moved forward so much over the last year, helped along by the pandemic. More people are playing games now than ever before! And, in November a new generation of console released, ushering in a new era for gaming, featuring things like Ray Tracing and up to 120fps gameplay to consoles, something PC players have been able to enjoy for at least the last few years.
Gaming became a way for people to connect when they couldn't be further apart, having to social distance and quarantine throughout the pandemic. Gaming also became a way for people to stay active when gyms were closed, with games like Ring Fit Adventure and Fitness Boxing on the Nintendo Switch as well as games for Oculus VR and PlayStation VR, like Beat Saber.
I personally have one of all three consoles. I have a PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch (Animal Crossing Edition), and an Xbox Series X. Each platform has it's own perks that I go to it for, for example the Xbox Series X is best for online play and for Microsoft Flight Simulator, the PlayStation 4 has some of the best exclusives like Ghost of Tsushima, and the Switch is for my more lighthearted adventures like Immortals Fenyx Rising and Animal Crossing. I wish I had a gaming PC, however mine is dead now, so no PC games for me.
I've been playing games pretty consistently now for about 11 years, since the days where a group of friends and I would go over to one friend's place and we'd play couch co-op Call of Duty Black Ops and Rainbow Six Vegas. This was also where I was introduced to the Assassin's Creed franchise, which quickly became my #1 franchise. I bought my first console in early 2011, an Xbox 360, and I picked up Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 alongside it. I also started dabbling more in Call of Duty. Over the years, my gaming tastes have evolved to include more diverse genres and titles, like Minecraft and Monster Hunter.
Gaming has opened up so many new doors for me in so many ways. I've met so many incredible people through gaming and have even turned it into a career by working at GameStop. And now I'm looking forward to getting into other careers in the industry, furthering my journey into content creation and looking into video game journalism. I've made so many new connections and been introduced to so many cool things and organizations. I'm really excited to see where I end up down the road in this industry.
What is your platform of choice? And what has gaming done for you?
