*Spoilers*
Bet you've never herd of this 1984 film and cult phenomenon. Long before things like The Office, other mockumentaries existed and this was so convincing that people still think this was an actual band. People really thought they sang and toured. NONE OF IT WAS REAL.

Gonna watch the film and pretend I don't have that piece of information and see if it's convincing.

I never heard of this or even the "fake band" mistakes. Wonder who here has seen this. I'm a little interested in watching to see if I get that vibe.

I'm really interested. The trailer hints that it's fake, but it looks fun.

I wonder how many people "saw" them on tour and have fan sites.

Watch it on TV. You will know all the songs by the end of the film.

I've seen it, it's hilarious. Legendary parts include when several of the band members kept on getting lost in a maze when they were trying to make it onstage at a venue, along with having stage props go wrong, such as when a pod malfunctioned: this was so convincing that people still think this was an actual band. People really thought they sang and toured. They were and DID to an extent, but not to the point where they released who knows how many albums according to the movie. The fictional part is that they supposedly started off more as a folk band in the 1960s before they turned to metal. In real life they actually came out with two albums, another one that @lbj would relate to, as on their second album cover they all look so serious and all, yet the title is "Break Like the Wind" They came out with a video or two ("Big Bottom") back in the day that even my local radio station of KLOL had their own video show for a bit called 101 Rock Place and even they played it. I still have a rock/metal mag where they state in an article when all the censorship wannabe against metal was going on if the whiners against metal had heard of Spinal Tap, as they were supposedly the metal band to end all metal bands. They also toured as well and had a follow-up to the movie on tv, which was also pretty funny. And as the "unplugged" stuff started getting popular in the late 90s or so, they did a tour called "Unplugged and Unwigged", where they, as their alter egos The Folksmen, opened for Spinal Tap. Not knowing and/or caring it was the same batch of musicians that were in Spinal Tap, they got booed off the stage. They also appeared early on in The Simpsons--like the fourth or fifth year or something--but I was disappointed that they weren't on for long, nor were very funny. They just got mad about something and ended the concert early. Now, here's the kicker: has anyone here seen Waiting For Guffman? That's the other musical mockumentary that did Spinal Tap and A Mighty Wind, which I also saw at a resale shop the same time I saw Wind. That also flopped but had really good reviews (gotta love the tagline of "there's a good reason some talent remains undiscovered"). Something about a small-town production team going nuts when they hear a rumor someone in their audience will be from Broadway. I was just wondering if I should take a chance and get that one too, just as long as they don't go too overboard on Broadway tunes or anything (I'm sure everyone here knows I'm not exactly into "normal" music ).
