Just got a PM from ProBoards asking for donations.
How much of this service is paid for? Or is it normally free?

You don't have to pay for anything if you don't want. It's just a donation request. We only pay to remove ads.  |

It's just a request for a donation. Ad-free is a paid service. They offer almost everything for free.

They have so many expenses and loss from COVID.  Most things are normally free. |

I was surprised when I saw the PM. I didn't realize how much they were struggling to stay afloat. I think almost everything is free. I thought they were doing well.

I'm sorry if anyone felt that the PM was invasive. It didn't come from me and I didn't expect them to send out a global request. I have known for a few months that they have been struggling because of COVID-19. There are some paid storage expansions that I can purchase, but I haven't because they were never needed here. A generous member does pay for ad-free viewing on this forum. You can, however, use ProBoards completely for free. Almost everything they offer is free. We've had this forum for free for 18 years, and it's sad that the company is struggling. No one was singled out with the message. Please do not feel upset. You're not obligated to pay for anything.

They reduced their number of employees to less than ten people and they are definitely struggling. However, they don't foresee themselves disappearing or forcing anyone to pay for service. The PM was simply a donation request and not a demand or a bill. Looks like even the $5 donation package comes with a ton of gifts. Indeed. You are free to share/distribute your gifts as you wish. |

It's kind that someone pays to remove ads. A free service for 18 years is a good deal. This is the first time they ever asked for a donation.
