Now that I'm an adult, I think I may have had some type of ADD or concentration troubles in school. I was the type who would start reading a page of a book, start day dreaming 2 words later, read the entire chapter, but have no recollection of anything I read. So I always got scolded by my teachers for "not listening," but I just COULDN'T at the time.

I'm sorry you had that experience in school. Maybe you just weren't motivated and you couldn't push yourself to read the material. It's not easy reading giant books that bore you to death. Did you ever outgrow that problem?

I'm much older than high school now. I think what changed everything for me was when I finished HS and college and had more say in what I wanted to read. I can comprehend things of interest, and even some things that are not of interest. I motivate myself and tell myself that I can do it. The teachers I had in school just made things worse because they discouraged me all the time.

I had no reading comprehension skills at that age. I read the same thing over and over. I couldn't remember and the more I pushed the worse it got. I got by by listening, but I couldn't do it on my own back then.

I wonder if it had a lot to do with our instructors, or if we had problems ourselves. I've been thinking about it a lot lately. I blamed myself for my bad grades for so long. I'm not looking to shift blame. But I"m looking to understand why I had a problem.

It could have been a combination of emotional, mental, and physical. If you were never seen by a doctor, you'll keep guessing. It might be best to not analyze the past if you are not affected by it anymore.

It could have been all the stress and pressure of appearing a certain way around your peers. When I was in school, no one wanted to be the "nerd." So no one tried as hard as they should have. I could have gotten better grades if I applied myself. But that's just my personal situation.

No. I never saw a doctor because my parents just scolded me rather than listened to me. It was a lose-lose scenario.

I'm sorry you went through that education experience. But look at you. You still graduated and you got better at reading comprehension all by yourself.

Yeah and I get emotional over other members. Yesterday I saw someone new disappear and I still wonder what happened.

Maybe he/she would prefer one of those forums where all people do is spam counting games.
