I settled a dispute with my mom today. Thank you for the encouragement of this post. I helped her through a family illness issue.

It makes me sad that there are so many with difficult relationships with their parents. I feel like I have enjoyed the evolving of the relationship I have with mine as I've gotten older and become an adult. I also love the dynamics that I see now that they are able to enjoy being grandparents and have fun with my 2 little kiddos. I'm being totally honest when I say that my parents are probably my best friends. I call one or both of them damn near daily and probably sometimes more than once in a day. My sympathies to those of you with difficult relationships with your folks, I hope reparations and improvements are able to be made and you guys are able to enjoy one another because I, for one, don't know what I'd do without my parents.

I am so happy for you. Things have gotten so much better for me as I've gotten older. I didn't get along with mine at all when I was a raging tween. But I've grown up and they've mellowed down and we are much more civil. |

My mom and I are just never going to have a real relationship.
However, my dad is like a best friend to me and I’m so excited to have the opportunity to offer him a place on our land to build his home.
