I don't do camping.
Why?
'Cause you have to sleep outside.

I loveee camping and the SO has never been. Thinking of taking our dogs this month sometime. Love:fishing, sleeping outdoors, campfires, smores, star gazing, no technology, playing cards. Dislike: mosquito bites, using the restroom.

Too damn hot in the summer in AR. Spring and winter camping is where it's at around here. Plus, in the winter you don't have to worry about ticks/chiggers/mosquitos.
Pros : Doing whatever you want with no plan whatsoever, seeing no one for days at a time, no cell service, wildlife photography, hunting, getting iced/snowed in and not being able to return to work.
Cons : I'm not aware of any unless I stay in a real campground, which is rare. In that case, other people are a con.

Sounds expensive. Not sure if it's worth it. Depends on your state and the park. Most developed parks in AR don't require a pre-arranged permit, you just roll up and find a camping spot then drop the payment into the self-pay station (usually $10 - $24 per night depending on the site). Also, most of the "pay to stay" locations are free in the winter because they shut down the services (water/bathrooms) to avoid freezing. Then you win on all fronts because 1) There are usually no people 2) it's free 3) you get to fend for yourself. However, the superior method is to park and hike into the national forest. The national forests don't require any permit or payment of any type (that I know of) - just go wherever you feel and try not to burn it down. Not sure if that's of all national forests or if it's different by state.

Drop me a line and I can point you to the sweetest places in the state. Just don't be too surprised if a sasquatch rumbles into your camp to say hi, it's just me.
