Everyone is suggesting "new" options - check Goodwill, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, etc. You can get a nice, large one for <$20 and save some resources.
Or, you can do what I did - buy a house and find an artificial tree in the attic when you move in. I either paid $100k for a house with a free tree or $100k for a tree with a free house... not sure which.
