If you're spearfishing in an area known for sharks, use standard safety practices. Heh, and yes, it's funny that there are "standard safety practices" for spearfishing/diving in shark waters : )
Mainly, remove the speared fish from water as quickly as possible (never trail it on a leader), be aware of your environment, and don't do anything dumb.
