how can they search a private forum? The bots can get to the boards that are open to guests.

They may be able to crawl private areas too.
Haven't you ever looked something up on Google, and then clicked on a result that took you to a forum that said you had to login to view the post?
Also, I've seen "7 viewing" on non-guest boards when no one was logged in, but myself.
However, when I asked about it on Proboards Support, they stated bots can only crawl what is accessible to guests.

The reason why it would say "7 viewing" on non-guest boards even when you are logged on is because if you are a guest and you try to access a private board, you are still accessing the board, just not the content of it. So, when it comes up asking you to log in, if you look at the address bar, you are still accessing that exact board link, so technically the guest is viewing the board, just not viewing the content. So, I suppose it would still crawl the private boards, but all the bots actually see is a page asking them to log in?

I thought they could crawl content too
A long time ago there was a thing where you could spoof yourself as the google bot to get into paid sites for free

Needs more advance planning.
Or, perhaps, I just need to come to this board more often...
