How do you feel about animals? Are they for fun? For sport? Part of the family? Does it depend on the situation?
Here's my animal story for the day.
Just got bitten by a striped squirrel
Cat was chasing it around and I was like WTF. So I go into my bedroom and close off the closet and the rest of teh house. Thing ends up in my toilet. I grab its furry little striped tail and pick it up and get 2 feet from the window and low and behold his tail is strong enough to swing him around and bite me.
Covered my hand in piss and got bitten by a squirrel.
Then I set it up so he got outside and the cat chased him

Well in NY, hunting isn't exactly the norm, or an option. If you tried to hunt something you'd be thrown in jail for animal cruelty.
To me, animals are pets/family members.
and regarding your story....
I hope you don't have rabies.

Had I left him in the toilet he would have died. I got these bleach tablets a week ago.
It's a little gerbil sized striped squirrel. I didn't want it to die.
I called the vet right away. Very little risk

So, you don't flush your toilet, put the seat down and have wild animals running through your home. Sexy!

Pets are definitely a "hobby"
They're fun and entertaining.
I also enjoy going to the zoo, or going outside and observing wild animals.

^ too cruel for a small mammal Not good for the sewer system either, hence the goof in the Finding Nemo movie, where that fish would've gotten shredded actually if he had gone through that Anyway, animals are family here. I couldn't ever shoot anything unless it was life threatening (like a bear)

(keep in mind that I grew up in a rural area in the south)
Depends on the situation and the animal :
Domesticated animals are family until they kill livestock or show violent tendencies, in which case they are put down.
Wild game is subject to Game and Fish Commission regulations - if it's legal to hunt it, and it's in season, then go for it. But, only kill what will be eaten - "sport" hunting for the biggest rack/tusk/beard/etc is bullsh*t... hunt for food, not for sport.
Nuisance animals (especially invasive species) are game year-round and can be killed, even if inedible, so long as the killing thereof is removing a animal subversive or detrimental to the natural habitat of the area. For example, feral pigs are non-native and quite destructive around here - you can kill them any time without a permit, but they are fairly tasty.... -darc

Just got bitten by a striped squirrel just got me thinking about a stand-up routine by Foxworthy. he mentioned being told a story by a couple, involving a beaver biting a dude's nipple off. on topic: hope you went to the doctor. you can never be too careful with animal bites. my mom got an infection from a cat bite, a number of years back. nasty infection, IMO.
